Christina Milian has a lot to smile about.
The actress is expecting a baby boy with her boyfriend, Matt Pokora and she has a starring role in the new Netflix film, Falling Inn Love.
We caught up with the glowing mom-to-be who shares a 9-year-old daughter with The Dream to get all the details about the super sappy rom-com that will give you your fill of cute cliches.
‘After a good 16 -17 hour flight to New Zealand, landing in such a beautiful place is just so worth it. The landscape is beautiful. It’s just like hills and peaks and valleys and trees and they’re known not having poisonous animals,” she said. “They have beaches and one second you’re walking through a rainforest; the next thing you know you’re on black sand and then you look up and you’re at the beach. The sunsets are just gorgeous… It was great. The culture there and the mountains and the people are incredible.”

Middle schooler creates school closet for needy classmates
An eighth-grader is ensuring his classmates will have always have access to clothes by creating a closet in his school.
Chase Neyland-Square, who attends Port Allen Middle School in Port Allen, La., Chase helps to organize and operate “PAMs pantry,” a space in the school that houses clothes, hygiene products, shoes and more for students who may need them.

The idea sprouted by students who were looking to assist fellow students who may not have the same access to nice items, such as an outfit for graduation. The school has many students from low-income families.
“My favorite part about helping with the pantry is getting types of clothes and sorting them out to give to various people,” Chase told ABC’s Good Morning America. “It makes me feel good because I know that I can make a difference in my school.”
“We really want the kids to feel like they have somewhere to go when they need something,” principal Jessica Major said. “We only have 215 kids so we’re able to get to know them really well…and try to help them where we can.”
Chase led the charge for the initiative by building the space out and fielding the donations that ranged from jackets to football cleats from community members. The donations are organized in the space by him, while Major and her secretary assist in the distribution of goods as they are needed.

In addition to his work in the school, Chase’s mother, Amanda Square, noted his efforts in the community at large, which includes senior citizen dinners and donating socks to the homeless.
In this back-to-school season, for those wondering what could be of use for students of the school, Chase says more the program needs more shoes.

NFL free agent Ryan Russell comes out as bisexual says he’s tired of hiding it
Ryan Russell, an NFL free agent, has come out as bisexual and says he’s just plain tired of hiding himself from the world.

The 27-year-old said he wants to live his life openly and play for the NFL once again and that those two realities, “shouldn’t be in conflict.”
Russell penned a heartfelt essay for ESPN and opened up about his hopes for living his best life without his sexuality being an issue both on and off the field.
“My truth is that I’m a talented football player, a damn good writer, a loving son, an overbearing brother, a caring friend, a loyal lover, and a bisexual man,” he writes.
“There isn’t a single openly LGBTQ player in the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, or the NHL,” and that he says “brings me pause,” Russell writes.
“I want to change that—for me, for other athletes who share these common goals, and for the generations of LGBTQ athletes who will come next.”
Russell is a free agent defensive end and in 2015 was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. He played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the next two seasons.
In 2018, he said he was out the whole season because of a shoulder injury.
He said he was scouted by an NFL team that was interested in signing him, but said that he’s had enough and that would be the last time he would “ever interview for a job as anything other than my full self.”
“Out of love, admiration and respect, I want the next team to sign me valuing me for what I do and knowing who I truly am,” he writes.

“I just want to play ball for a team that knows me off the field and values me on it. I want to encourage teammates to be the same people they have always been. I want us to remain as close as family. I want to be able to dedicate my life to football without feeling like I can’t dedicate my life to truth as well.”

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey asks for forgiveness after a taped interview reveals she allegedly wore blackface for a college skit
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, is begging for forgiveness Thursday after news of her wearing blackface in college came to light.

Ivey, a Republican, is getting slammed admist calls for her resignation after her then-fiancé Ben LaRavia recalled during an interview that she participated in a college sorority skit for Alpha Gamma Delta wearing blue coveralls and with “black paint all over her face,” The Birmingham News reported Thursday.
Ivey, 74, said she has no recollection of taking part of the racist skit but she was at the time president of her Alpha Gamma Delta pledge class at Auburn University.
Ivey issued a statement addressing the issue:
“I have now been made aware of a taped interview that my then-fiance, Ben LaRavia, and I gave to the Auburn student radio station back when I was SGA Vice President,” she said in a statement obtained by The Birmingham News.
“Even after listening to the tape, I sincerely do not recall either the skit, which evidently occurred at a Baptist Student Union party, or the interview itself, both which occurred 52 years ago. Even though Ben is the one on tape remembering the skit — and I still don’t recall ever dressing up in overalls or in blackface —– I will not deny what is the obvious. As such, I fully acknowledge — with genuine remorse — my participation in a skit like that back when I was a senior in college.”

Ivey defended her character saying, “that is not who I am today, and it is not what my administration represents all these years later,” and offered “heartfelt apologies for the pain and embarrassment this causes.”
She said “the Alabama of today is a far cry from the Alabama of the 1960s.”

Rep. Juandalynn Givan (D-Birmingham) demanded that Ivey step down immediately.
“I don’t care if it was 52 years ago or yesterday,” Rep. Givan told The Birmingham News.
“She is the governor of the state of Alabama, which is still considered one of the most racist states in the U.S. This is who she was then. It is who she is now. I have nothing for her. I don’t accept her apology. She should have stood before the people of Alabama herself. She should resign. I don’t think she should have been elected, and I think she is a racist.”
“It is not acceptable any time or place,” Givan said. “Do us a favor and step down.”
Ivey’s blackface fiasco now joins the ranks of a number of politicians whose past have come back to haunt them, including Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring, both who participated in events during their college days wearing blackface.

Judge Mathis calls valet’s claim he spit in his face ‘money-grab’ claim
Judge Mathis says he was not out of order and denies a parking valet ugly accusation claiming the venerable legal eagle and TV star spit on him.

Video went viral showing Judge Mathis and the valet in a heated exchange over why it was taking a lengthy amount of time for the valet to retrieve Mathis’ Rolls Royce.
It appears that the Judge is giving the valet quite a tongue lashing as he leans in to the car window and tells him off about his tardiness. And that’s when the valet claims that Mathis spit in his face.
Judge Mathis vehemently denies the accusation.
“First of all it was a 40-minute wait and when he came I yelled at him,” and there was a verbal back and forth, he admits.
“There was no spitting. There were six witnesses there. Ask them,” the judge tells TMZ.
“I don’t know if this is a money grab, which I suspect it is. People get accused all the time and it’s not true,” he said.
Mathis says he has a stomach condition that required medicine that was in his trunk that he couldn’t get to because of the long wait for his car.
Well one thing is for sure, Judge Mathis will fight this case since he is an advocate who fights for the people.
Judge Greg Mathis is one of the longest-serving arbitrators in television history. The show celebrated its 20th anniversary this season and won the 2018 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Legal/Court Program.
And as Mathis continues to serve justice on our television screens, he is also fighting just as hard for justice when he’s off the bench.
The Detroit native has a history of giving back to the Black community. Never forgetting his roots, which includes a troubled childhood, he has continued to provide services to better the lives of others and lead them on the right path.
Mathis opened a community center in his hometown and has assisted thousands of young people with his non-profit agency, Young Adults Asserting Themselves (Y.A.A.T.), an agency that provides career, business start-up, and job opportunities, as well as job training and college enrollment assistance.

Last year, the Judge headed back to the city of Flint where he and several members of Flint’s clergy, community organizers, and concerned citizens rallied to challenge the state government to rebuild the city’s corroded pipes and restore clean water once and for all.
During an interview with theGrio, Mathis opened up on why this issue is so personally important to him.
“In 2016, we had marches, rallies and legal for,” said Mathis. “We all hosted it and we lobbied congress and senate to get two hundred million dollars. And so we slowed down knowing that the money was there.”
“However, in the last few months, the state stopped giving away free water even though the pipes haven’t been rebuilt and the people don’t trust that this lower land level is safe to drink. So, we’re taking a caravan of water with semi trucks and about 30 carloads in Detroit on November 1st to bring those folks water and we’re going to have a rally challenging the powers that be, the elected officials and the state officials to get things done. They’ve only completed half of the pipes although they’ve had two hundred million dollars since 2016.”

Simone Biles’ brother arrested for a triple murder at an Airbnb
The brother of Olympic gymnast standout Simone Biles has been arrested by police for a triple murder in Cleveland, Ohio.

On Thursday, Tevin Biles-Thomas, 24, was taken into custody for a New Year’s Eve murder in which three people were killed and two others were injured, NBC News reports.
Biles-Thomas was arrested in Georgia after fleeing the Dec. 31 shooting at an Airbnb in Cleveland, according to a joint statement from the Cleveland Division of Police and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police report that three men were found dead at the scene after an “uninvited group” entered the property and “an altercation ensued” that resulted in the fatal shooting.
According to reports, Delvante Johnson, 19, and Toshaun Banks, 21, were pronounced dead at the scene, and Devaughn Gibson, 23, died later at a local hospital.
Biles-Thomas has been charged with six counts of murder, three counts of voluntary manslaughter, five counts of felonious assault and one count of perjury, according to prosecutors.
It took police eight months to investigate and find Biles-Thomas.
“It is through their hard work that we can begin to seek justice for these victims,” O’Malley said.
Biles-Thomas, who is in the U.S. Army, is the only person so far to be charged in the shooting. He is being held at Liberty County Jail in Hinesville, Georgia and will be arraigned Sept. 13 in Cleveland.
According to Time.com, Biles-Thomas, his sister Simone and their two other siblings spent their early childhood going between foster homes and the home of their mother, who struggled with drug addiction. When she was six, Biles and her younger sister were adopted by their maternal grandfather Ron and his wife Nellie. Biles-Thomas and their other sibling were adopted by Ron’s sister, according to a Texas Monthly profile on Biles.

OPINION: Black mothers need to wield the enormous power of breastfeeding their babies
This 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans to the shores of Virginia on August 25, 1619 was a time for African Americans to re-assert our full humanity. As a mother, holistic doctor and longtime advocate of the benefits of breastfeeding, I am moved that this anniversary also fell at the beginning of National Black Breastfeeding Week which is celebrated between August 25 to 31.
There are many things we cannot control about living in a society that is steeped in the fallacy of a belief in racial hierarchy, which spreads racism and conscious and unconscious bias through society.
However, mitigating disease risk and enhancing the development of our babies through optimal breastfeeding is an area of potential agency for us. It is a form of control and power; a way to resist and counter slavery’s legacy of separated families, loss and maternal trauma.
Nested within National Breastfeeding month is a week dedicated to African American mothers, families and health advocates to focus on breastfeeding in our community and the public policies needed to support mothers providing this crucial “first food” for our children.
Our goal is to make breastfeeding a cultural norm for Black families in the United States; and to eliminate disparities in the rates of initiating and sustaining breastfeeding throughout the first year of our babies’ lives.
Currently, only 64% of Black infants receive their mother’s milk as their natural first food, and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that breastfeeding initiation rates were significantly lower among Black infants in 23 states.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for six months. Solid foods can be introduced at six months, but access to mother’s milk should be sustained throughout the entire first year of life, at a minimum.
The 21st century has generated a global consensus about the benefits of breastmilk. It provides ALL the nutrients, vitamins and minerals babies need in the first six months of life. Additionally, breastmilk delivers protective antibodies to thwart infectious diseases and establish a healthy intestinal bacterial environment needed throughout life. The benefits don’t only accrue to the babies; breastfeeding reduces mothers’ risks of breast cancer, obesity and diabetes.
Given the persistence of health inequities, especially of our vulnerability to stress related chronic illnesses, the proven health benefits from optimal breastfeeding — physical and psychological — must make support of breastfeeding a top priority for African Americans.
Challenging the Cultural Norm
Cultural norms are the standards we live by, they are shared expectations and rules (often unspoken) that drive our behaviors. I became a grandmother almost a year ago and I can joyfully report that my grandson, daughter and son-in-law are still a breastfeeding family. I say family to emphasize the importance of fathers, as well as mothers, in breastfeeding success. My daughter and her family have beaten the odds.
According to data from the CDC, African American families initiate breastfeeding at lower rates, our babies are less likely to be exclusively breastfed at six months or continue receiving any mother’s milk at 12 months.

Like any other cultural norm, we learn to prioritize breastfeeding from our families, friends, from the media, in schools and throughout our institutions.
I want to applaud Kimberly Seales Allers, an author and leading advocate for Black women’s health, for proposing the idea of Black Breastfeeding Week in her blog more than 10 years ago.
It’s a sweet irony that the date coincides with the Jamestown Anniversary date. Our sojourn as an enslaved people in this country began at the beginning of this week on August 25th four centuries ago. However, our health and well-being as an emancipated and resilient people require us achieving optimal breastfeeding rates.
Slavery found unspeakable and immeasurable ways to exploit the Black body, particularly the bodies of African American women. Forced wet-nursing or breastfeeding white babies was one form of exploitation of Black women during the centuries of enslavement. Some believe that even today this memory and legacy continues to serve as a barrier to embracing breastfeeding as a cultural norm within the Black community.
There are many other economic and policy barriers to be addressed. Black women are more likely to work in lower paid, non-union, contract and temporary jobs and not receive any paid maternity leave to allow them time to establish a solid breastfeeding pattern. The same employers are often not required to adopt the breastfeeding friendly requirements in the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare or the ACA). Obamacare requires larger employers to provide breaks and appropriate spaces for expressing milk for nursing mothers. The ACA also required insurers to cover costs of breastfeeding equipment and supportive services such as help from lactation counselors.

I have been an advocate for breastfeeding throughout my career as a holistic doctor. As Vice President for Food, Health and Well-Being at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, I created and oversaw a strategic initiative to help close racial gaps in breastfeeding rates. We invested tens of millions of dollars over a decade and helped spur the new consensus that breastfeeding matters as public health policy. The 2011 Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding was among the many coordinated national efforts to foster new momentum.
For babies born in 2014, 83 percent of parental respondents to a survey conducted by the CDC indicated breastfeeding at some point; 55 percent reported still breastfeeding at six months and 34 percent reported breastfeeding at 12 months. These numbers show significant improvements since Surgeon General Regina Benjamin urged people in all sectors to take specific action steps to support breastfeeding mothers and babies.
While overall rates have improved, racial disparities remain. Let’s leverage this momentous anniversary of the African American community by affirming two firsts: the arrival of our ancestors and their central role in building this nation and the central role of nature’s first food, mother’s milk in fostering our capacity for resilience and thriving against all odds!

But the reality TV supermodel, who has before been accused of cultural appropriation, seemed unbothered by the backlash, posting up pics out and about Aug. 23, showing off her cornrows as fans reminded her the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star to stay in her lane, PEOPLE reports.
“I’m EXHAUSTED of white people constantly appropriating black culture and wearing hairstyles that we are always ridiculed/ chastised for having and just doing it because they want to ‘look different’ or ‘stand out,’ ” wrote one user. “We wear these hairstyles to PROTECT our natural hair from damages but they wanna wear it because it looks cool. It shouldn’t be worn by them period.”
Another upset fan wrote, “She never learns.”
Most recently Kim and Kylie Jenner came out showing off a one-legged bodysuit with E! News giving them a shout-out saying they were one leg up on a trend. However, famed Olympic runner Florence Griffith Joyner, aka Flo Jo, been there, done that decades ago.

“I think as long as it comes from a place of love and you’re getting inspired, then it is okay,” she added.

Alice Marie Johnson, who Kim Kardashian West helped get out of prison, has popped up on Instagram hawking the reality TV star’s new shapewear line.
Johnson looks into the camera wearing a black sculpting bodysuit from SKIMS and says the shapewear makes her feel “free.” She calls Kardashian West her “war angel” who did not let anything stand between her and Johnson’s freedom.
The Memphis grandmother was a first-time offender when she was sentenced to life plus 25 years in a cocaine conspiracy case. Her sentence was commuted last year after Kardashian West visited the White House to plead for her freedom.
Johnson kicked off a campaign for SKIMS that will feature 25 other real women who will speak to how SKIMS “empowers them to feel the best versions of themselves.”
