Body of transgender woman Bee Love Slater found burned beyond recognition in Florida

This year has been an especially deadly one for transgender women, particularly Black trans women and unfortunately,  the disturbing trend shows no signs of stopping.

Last week, the body of Bee Love Slater, 23, was found in a torched car in Clewiston, Florida, making her the 18th known trans woman to lose her life under unnatural circumstances this year. CBS News reported that her body was burned beyond recognition.

Though investigators have yet to confirm if she was the victim of a hate crime, Slater’s best friend, Kenard Wade, told reporters that she could think of no other reason why someone would harm her.

”She had a really, really good heart,” Wade told WINK. “She would never harm anyone, never put anyone in harm’s way. How could someone go to that extreme to get rid of her?”

According to CBS, Wade also mentioned that Slater had received threats the day of the fire and expressed that she wanted to leave town to avoid any trouble.

Since her death, many have taken to social media to share their support and express how great of a person Slater was.

“Bee love was kind to everyone she came in contact with and her presence touched me for just the four months that I shared with her was amazing!” Dezmond Bass wrote on Facebook.

It has become apparent to many that something needs to be done to protect these women as the American Medical Association has labeled these killings of trans women of color an “epidemic.”

“According to available tracking, fatal anti-transgender violence in the U.S. is on the rise and most victims were black transgender women,” said AMA Board Member S. Bobby Mukkamala, M.D. “The number of victims could be even higher due to underreporting and better data collection by law enforcement is needed to create strategies that will prevent anti-transgender violence.”

The same week Slater was killed, 17-year-old Bailey Reeves was shot and killed in Baltimore. According to CBS, the Trump administration has continued to roll back protections for the LGBTQ community, which has put countless individuals in danger.

“Our society needs to work to ensure transpeople can live without fear,” the ACLU of Florida said in a statement onThursday.

The investigation into Slater and Reeves’ deaths are ongoing.

Twitter roasts Kanye West after images of new ‘Yeezy Crocs’ leak

Kanye West is no stranger to critique for his interesting choices in fashion and his new shoes are no exception.

On Thursday, images from of West’s new sneakers featured in The Face Magazine were leaked by Yeezy Mafia and according to Complex, they are reportedly being called the “Yeezy Foam Runner.” The white, oddly shaped shoes have several holes throughout, were first seen early in the summer on the feet of West and Kim Kardashian West‘s daughter, North West, until the recent images were leaked. And when people took a closer look, the shoes seemed to remind many social media users of another well-known shoe brand: Crocs.

Twitter users quickly dubbed the “All Falls Down” rapper’s new footwear “Yeezy Crocs,” and Complex reported that they compared the shoe to your unhip dad’s favorite walk around kicks. With the seemingly endless cycle of jokes ensuing, the term trended for most of the day- which we would surmise is probably what West was after.

“The yeezy crocs look like they could be a new pokemon,” @JoeJoeColes tweeted.

“Kanye really made Yeezy crocs. The Yocs,” @JoeJoeColes humorously noted.

“Twitter, Today: LMAOOOO Yeezy Crocs these sh*t trash who would wear these ugly a** shoes. Twitter, Release Day: didn’t get my Yeezy Crocs guess i’m gonna have to pay $428 for them on the secondary market,” @jtylerconway captioned.

However, there were definitely some fans who admire the shoe and gave props to West for creating a unique product that could get people talking.

“I want these ugly ass yeezy crocs so I can flex on people when running errands,” insists @isackgmanalo

“The only crocs I will ever wear outside . I love them . Yeezy is a genius” @eni_oti gushed.

West’s new shoes are expected to debut sometime next year.

‘Who the hell is Joy-Ann Reid?’: Trump unsuccessfully tried to come for the popular MSNBC host on social media

Once again, Donald Trump fired his Twitter fingers and this time he decided to take aim at MSNBC personality Joy-Ann Reid.

According to The Wrap, it is unclear what specifically set the president off, but Trump took to Twitter on Friday asking who Reid was after her guest-host stint on Chris Hayes’ MSNBC show All In, where she covered Trump’s recent reference to Vice President Mike Pence as “Mike Pounce.” MSNBC, which usual broadcasts a more liberal point of view, also titled two segments of the show via their website “Air Force: Trump’s money grab is a risk to national security” and “Mike Pence cleans up after Donald Trump in Baltimore.”

“Who the hell is Joy-Ann Reid?” Trump wrote in tweet. “Never met her, she knows ZERO about me, has NO talent, and truly doesn’t have the ‘it’ factor needed for success in showbiz. Had a bad reputation, and now works for the Comcast/NBC losers making up phony stories about me. Low Ratings. Fake News!”

It is not surprising that Trump would level off insults at Reid; she is an outspoken critic of the president. Her show AM Joy began trending on Saturday when she stated a poll that found more than half of Americans thought Trump should not be impeached, but she outlined the damning evidence against him.

Reid also released a book in June titled “The Man Who Sold America: Trump and the Unraveling of the American Story.” The Wrap reported that on its back cover, it asks readers, “Is Donald Trump running the “longest con” in U.S. history? What will be left of America when he leaves office?”

Trump is obviously not a fan of the MSNBC network and has been known to criticize it’s other hosts like Lawrence O’Donnell. In August, he suggested O’Donnell should sue a source who gave him unverified information about the president’s loans that he had to later retract.
