Police say, 13-year-old girl hospitalized for constipation, discovers she’s pregnant by 70-year old man

In an unimaginable true crime case, a 13-year-old Florida girl was discovered by doctors to be pregnant when she came to the hospital seeking medical help for constipation. The teenager now says a 70-year-old man is the father.

The girl arrived at North Broward Medical Center in Pompano Beach, Fla., last Friday morning complaining of pain, reports the Miami Herald. When medical personnel examined her, they discovered she was 14-weeks pregnant.

As is protocol, the hospital then contacted the Florida Department of Children and Families and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

The girl identified the father as Renaud Jerome, 70, of Boca Raton, Fla., who actually brought her to the hospital, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported. The young woman told investigators that he “would touch and have sex with her,” according to the Herald.

Authorities immediately arrested Jerome and charged him with three counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of impregnating a child. As of Wednesday, he was being held at the Palm Beach County Jail with no bond.

Much of the information reported is based on a police report that has been heavily redacted to protect the teen girl’s identity.

The report did say that the girl and Jerome were living in the same home, but it did not say who else might live there and did not give any indication of the relationship between the two.

Jerome, who speaks only Creole, told authorities with the help of a translator that he sometimes cares for the teen, the Herald reported.

“Jerome stated that within the last couple of months he has had consensual vaginal intercourse with (redacted) three times,” according to the police report. “Jerome stated that (redacted) was interested in him more than he was interested in her and never forced her to do anything.”

According to the Sun Sentinel, Florida law stipulates that no one under the age of 16 can legally give consent to sexual activity. Hopefully, this 13-year old girl will be removed from this environment and get the assistance she needs.

‘Miracle’ Minneapolis toddler who survived fall from balcony likely to make a recovery

Abdirizak Abdi, the 1-year-old who survived a 55-foot drop from a balcony almost a month ago, is likely to make a full recovery, a close family friend tells tells CBS Minnesota.

Abdirizak fell from the balcony of their family home on May 2 while he and his 2-year-old brother, Abdiqani, were playing and fell onto a rooftop landing next to the balcony and then to the ground, People reports.

Abdiqani died form his injuries while Abdirizak suffered three broken ribs, a fractured skull and a broken arm and jaw, ABC News reports.

Calling Abdirizak’s recovery a “miracle,” family friend Grad Darhir told CBS Minnesota the boy is back home playing with blocks and smiling.

“Starting from the mother, father and anyone of his family, friends, people are very glad to see Abdirizak is with me today,” Darhir said, speaking for the boy’s father, who sat next to him.

“And he is. with us, this interview, smiling, sharing,” Darhir continued. “It’s amazing. It’s a miracle. It’s a miracle.”

The friend and translator also told the station of the tragic accident, “We have accepted it. Everybody has accepted it and whatever we have, whatever the family has is just to thank Allah.”

The toddler’s “brain, his organs are perfectly fine,” Darhir said, but he still has not grasped that his big brother is gone.

“He’s just running around, trying to find his sibling, his brother,” Darhir explained. “He doesn’t know what to say and he doesn’t know what happened, but he knows something is wrong.”

The family now protects their balcony with a metal grate, and the landlord has promised to do the same to every balcony on the building, WCCO reported.

Darhir said the family believes their loss should be a warning to other families to take caution with small children.

“It could happen to anyone and we don’t want to lose anyone,” Darhir said for the family, which has set up a GoFundMe account to pay for medical expenses related to the tragedy.
“We have to be very much careful as much as possible,” the family friend said.

Marcell Pickens Jr.: Photographer and Filmmaker Gives Entrepreneurs The Star Treatment

BE Modern Man: Marcell Pickens Jr.

Photographer and filmmaker, small business advocate, 37

Twitter: @TheFilmmarketer; Instagram: @TheFilmmarketer

A few years ago, I was inspired after reading about Black Wall Street and the level of success that African Americans were able to achieve in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Simultaneously, I became baffled by our inability to recreate the same level of success after almost 100 years. I immediately knew that I had to do my part but I didn’t know exactly how or by what means. I created Blachwood L.L.C., which pays homage to Black Wall Street by combining the Black Wall Street and Greenwood Ave [that community’s main thoroughfare] to serve as a reminder of the purpose of the company. Even after the name was established, I still didn’t know how to serve our community with maximum impact. I researched and found great movements that encouraged our community to buy black and keep black dollars circulating in our communities; however, I knew that wasn’t my lane.

For over 11 years I have practiced professional photography and commercial making for small and big businesses. As a small business photographer and filmmaker, or filmmarketer, I’ve shot hundreds of weddings and events and have created videos that helped small businesses grow their awareness and increase their profits. After seeing the impact my work was having toward the success of individuals and businesses, I realized my lane was with my talents. We then created the Blachwood Small Business Marketing Tour. This tour was designed to bring “Big Business” photography and video to small businesses at an affordable price. I fervently believe that one of the reasons small businesses in our community fail is because of a lack of exposure. With that being said, not many small businesses can afford $3,000 photo shoots and $5,000 commercials. The Blachwood tour gives small businesses in select cities access to necessary resources to help them get their message out there. We’ve designed an amazing package that includes both video and photography to really help catapult their businesses to another level. I’m extremely proud of the model and the impact it has had so far.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF IN LIFE?

I am most proud of my family: my wife of 12 years Evvett, two beautiful children Isabella Skye and Maxwell Cree and our golden doodle, Tucker. Success isn’t much without balance. My family unit represents balance, purpose, and legacy.

HOW HAVE YOU TURNED STRUGGLE INTO SUCCESS?

Honestly, I believe that one of my biggest struggles in life has been failing to listen to my inner spirit and following my own purpose early on. I remember being told in high school, “You are great in math; you should become an engineer.” For this very reason I decided to earn a mechanical engineering degree; all the while my heart leaned toward creativity.

In our community, we are taught to pursue high-paying careers regardless of our talents because it’s safe. Don’t get me wrong; this is sound advice, but the reality is that this type of advice stems from a history of struggle and is passed down from generation to generation. I struggled with the expectations of my elders and the direction my inner spirit was guiding me toward. I have since found peace in my experience as an engineer but have become alive in my experience as a photographer and filmmaker.

WHO WAS YOUR GREATEST MALE ROLE MODEL AND WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM HIM?

Dr. Decatur B. Rogers was the meanest man I had ever met, or so I thought. Dr. Rogers was the Dean and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Tennessee State University. It wasn’t until I began to do the impossible in my studies that I realized he wasn’t mean, but he understood that without hard work, dedication, and discipline, success was not attainable. Dr. Rogers demanded all of these traits out of me and ever since then, my commitment to success has been unstoppable.

HOW DO YOU DEFINE MANHOOD?

I define manhood as staying true to your responsibilities, standing strong in the face of adversity, being courageous during difficult moments, having the audacity to pursue your purpose, and finally accepting that the life you live is for the benefit of those who succeed you.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT BEING A BLACK MAN?

Society often perpetuates a negative image of black men. However, when a black man achieves a certain level of success, his accomplishments are resounding and undeniable. Although we often play by a different set of rules, I welcome the challenge of being an example to younger black men and proving that we are not who society says we are, and that our melanin is far more valuable than gold.

Proverbs 23:7 is one of my favorites: “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” I meet so many men who begin to think and believe what society says about them, so they then become just that. I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to encourage anyone, specifically black men, reading this by declaring and affirming that you are more than your failures. Fail forward and never give up. Listen to your inner self, hone and perfect your craft and eventually, mountains will begin to move.

In a case of mistaken identity, Chicago police tried to execute a warrant and killed a man they assumed was his brother and a murder suspect.

On Tuesday Curtis Stagger, 21, was shot and killed after being mistaken by police for his brother. Stagger was sitting in a car in the driveway of his uncle’s home as Chicago PD’s fugitive apprehension unit tried to execute an arrest warrant around 1:45 p.m.

They reportedly were looking for the victim’s brother but thought they had the right person when they confronted Stagger. Police claim they opened fire after he allegedly pulled out a handgun, The Chicago Tribune reports.

Stagger was announced dead at a local hospital.

A police spokesman tweeted out an image of the semi-automatic handgun that Stagger allegedly had on his person during the shooting.

Police didn’t realize the wrong person was killed until Stagger was fingerprinted after his death.

An investigation is underway to determine if Stagger first opened fired on officers as previously reported.

Now the Grammy award winning rapper is ranting about just how much money has gone down the drain due to the fact that she’s been ordered by her doctors to cancel her shows, and take time off to heal, Yahoo reports.

“I hate canceling shows because I love money. I’m a money addict,” Cardi explained in a video on Instagram. “And I get paid a lot of money, a lot of money for these shows. A lot of money. I’m canceling millions of dollars in shows, but health is wealth so I have to do what I have to do.”

The string of cancelled performances is costing Cardi a pretty penny. But she explained that she was willing to pay the price to get her body right.

I do whatever the fuck I want to do with my body,” Cardi said. “I don’t have the time of day like you do. My job as an entertainer is a 24-hour job, bro. So no I don’t have time to work out. I wanted specific things that I know that no matter how much I work out won’t get fixed.”

“So you know, you still got stitches in the inside—in my breast—so they slowly got to heal.”

Cardi explained that on doctors orders she decided to take much needed time off. She got breast augmentation and liposuction after the birth of her daughter Kulture.

Chicago woman killed by gunfire as she used her body to shield her baby girl from bullets

Gunfire in the city of Chicago claimed the life of a 24-year-old woman who used her body as a shield to protect her baby from a hail of bullets Tuesday morning.

Brittany Hill is being remembered as a hero after her baby girl survived a shooting outside her North Austin neighborhood home, The Chicago Tribune reports.

Hill, with her 1-year-old daughter in her arms, exited from a car when someone began shooting, police said.

Hill leaped behind a car for cover and laid her body over her child. She was hit on the right side, according to Chicago police spokeswoman Michelle Tannehill. “She shielded the baby from the gunfire,” she said.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage and believe this was a targeted event and the suspects were aiming for people who were near Hill.

No arrests have been made.

“This is not a random act of violence, unfortunately,” Tannehill said. “It could possibly have been a targeted incident due to gang conflicts and retaliations in the area.”

Hill was also the mother of young son who was also present during the senseless shooting and ran when the gunfire erupted.

Chicago PD is asking for information in the case and people can use the Police Department’s confidential tip website.

After Black students cast as slaves for auction for school history lesson investigation finds profoundly negative impact

The New York State Attorney General’s Office completed its investigation of an incident at a Bronxville, New York elementary school where students were made to act like slaves during a history lesson and found that the action “had a profoundly negative effect” on the children.

Students made to act like slaves during history lesson at elementary school

A group of African American students were paraded by and into their Social Studies classroom before their white peers who were told to bid on the students at the fake auction, NBC News reports.

On Wednesday, the AG office revealed its findings into the probe at The Chapel School in March.

“Every young person – regardless of race – deserves the chance to attend school free of harassment, bias, and discrimination,” said Attorney General Letitia James. “Lessons designed to separate children on the basis of race have no place in New York classrooms, or in classrooms throughout this country. I thank The Chapel School for agreeing to take measures that directly address the issues of race, diversity and inclusion at the school. My office will continue efforts to promote safe environments where all students can learn and thrive.”

Back in March, a parent at the suburban school, Vernex Harding said the lesson on slavery left her fifth grader son upset and shaken for having to act as a slave who was being auctioned off by his white peers.

The incident happened in two different fifth-grade social studies classes.

The teacher reportedly asked all African-American children to leave the class as she placed imaginary “shackles” on their ankles, necks and wrists and she then ordered them to walk back into the class so their classmates could bid on them.

“The investigation found that the teacher’s re-enactments in the two classes had a profoundly negative effect on all of the students present — especially the African American students — and the school community at large,” James said. “Following the re-enactments, the school terminated the teacher’s employment.”

50 Cent calls out ‘Power’ co-star Rotimi for owing him $300k

The agreement entered into between the Attorney General and the school requires the school to do the following:

  • Hire a Chief Diversity Officer, subject to the Attorney General’s approval;
  • Develop and submit a Staff Diversification Plan proposing steps the school will take annually to increase minority representation among the school’s teaching faculty;
  • Commit new financial aid to maintain and increase diversity within the student body;
  • Submit a new Code of Conduct, subject to the Attorney General’s approval, governing all school community members and specifically addressing racial and ethnic discrimination and harassment, as well as other prohibited behaviors;
  • Submit a School Discipline Reform Plan, intended to ensure equal application of disciplinary techniques to all students, with an emphasis on providing constructive feedback and teaching alternative or replacement behaviors to students;
  • Identify and retain a Diversity Consultant to assist the school in developing training protocols to train students and school employees on racial/ethnic diversity and sensitivity in the educational setting, with training to follow no less than twice per academic year;
  • Create a formal complaint procedure that students or parents may use to notify the school of complaints regarding harassment or discrimination, and publicize the new procedure to school community members; and
  • Maintain records of complaints, investigations of complaints, and the implementation of other elements of relief in the agreement.

“The Chapel School reached a timely resolution with the attorney general to ensure that our focus remains on the well being of our community as we move forward in continued reflection, action and growth,” the school said.

A Washington, DC-based Chinese restaurant is under fire after a Black customer reported that he received a receipt for his food with the word n*gger typed at the top.

Brandon Hart says that he regularly eats at Eddie’s Carry Out, but this time he got a surprise along with his order of Singapore noodles and beef fried rice on May 24th when he saw the racial slur in the place of where his name should have been.

“Just flabbergasted that you can actually write that on a ticket or receipt or any piece of paper,” Hart told Fox 5. “How can you write that word unintentionally and then print it?”

The station then sought out people outside of the restaurant to get their reaction to the offensive word.

While the owner of the eatery, Yung Lan, declined an interview but a server explained to Yahoo that when they take phone orders they have the customers spell out their names.

“We speak Chinese and our English is limited, so we ask customers to spell their names on the phone,” the server said. “We typed the name he spelled.”

An employee said when Hart picked up his food, he didn’t complain at that time. The owner apologized to Fox 5 and said his establishment has been getting hit with hate and death threats.

‘The Chi’ actor Jason Mitchell loses MTV awards bid amid misconduct claims

MTV on Wednesday cut Jason Mitchell from contention at next month’s MTV Movie & TV Awards following reports of alleged misconduct by “The Chi” actor.

MTV said in a statement Mitchell was removed as a nominee for best performance in a show in light of recent developments. The channel did not expand on the statement.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , Mitchell has been dropped from Showtime’s “The Chi” after he was fired in late April from the upcoming Netflix movie “Desperado.”

The trade paper reported that Mitchell’s agent, manager and lawyer cut ties with him after he was dropped from “The Chi.” There was no immediate reply Wednesday to a request for comment from an attorney listed as Mitchell’s representative.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter published Wednesday, “The Chi” showrunner Ayanna Floyd said there were multiple human resources complaints against Mitchell, including one she filed against the actor, after she became what she described as “a target of his rage and inappropriateness.”

Mitchell drew critical acclaim for his work in the 2015 film “Straight Outta Compton” and in 2017’s “Mudbound.” He played Brandon Johnson in “The Chi’s” first and second seasons, the latter airing now.

He would have competed at the gender-neutral MTV awards airing on June 17 with Emilia Clarke of “Game of Thrones,” Elisabeth Moss of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Gina Rodriguez of “Jane the Virgin” and Kiernan Shipka of “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.”

50 Cent calls out ‘Power’ co-star Rotimi for owing him $300k

Octavia Spencer takes the lead in horror film in ‘Ma’

Octavia Spencer is a movie star. She has been for almost a decade since audiences and Oscar voters fell in love with her as Minnie in “The Help.” Since then she’s gotten two more supporting actress Oscar nominations, one of which was for a film that became another “surprise” blockbuster (“Hidden Figures”), ramped up her production company, acted consistently in film and television and written children’s books. She even executive produced this year’s best picture winner, “Green Book.”

But there was one thing she hadn’t yet done in her nearly 25 years in the business: Starred in her own film. She’d been a lead before, but she’d never been first on the call sheet. Until now.

The film that righted that wrong is “Ma,” a Blumhouse horror movie in which she plays a small town woman who buys beer for some local high school students and lets them party in her basement, before things take a sinister turn. It opens nationwide this weekend, and it’s unlike anything audiences have seen Spencer do before.

“There are only a couple of archetypes people are comfortable seeing me in. And for me, it’s like, you know you might only be comfortable seeing me this way, but there are so many colors in this crayon box,” Spencer, 47, said. “I want to play everything that you don’t think I can do.”

She’d found herself, despite all the success, being considered for only “nurturer” or “sage” roles. She wanted to stretch.

The only reason “Ma” came to her was Tate Taylor, who wrote and directed “The Help,” but also has been Spencer’s friend since they were production assistants together on “A Time to Kill” in 1995, dreaming about a move to Los Angeles and a career in movies.

The script Taylor saw was written for a white woman, but he thought of Spencer nonetheless.

“She had expressed to me she was frustrated,” Taylor said. “She’s grateful for her career but she was being offered the same thing and never the lead. Women of color just don’t get the lead unless they’re a slave or a maid.”

So he called his former roommate (they lived together in a mid-city Los Angeles duplex for seven years), and proposed this semi-deranged film that would be a departure for both of them.

“I said, ‘Well, usually black people get killed in the first 15 minutes of a horror film,’” Spencer said. “And he said, ‘Not only do you not die within the first 15 minutes, but you actually do all the killing.’ I thought, ‘Ok, I’m interested.’”

The script needed some work, though. Ma didn’t really have a motivation, she was just crazy, and Taylor changed that.

“The things that he changed weren’t based on race,” Spencer said. “It was just giving her a backstory, to give her a reason, in her mind, as to why she takes such a dark turn.”

But ask Spencer what her dream role is and the answer might surprise you.

“I always say, the part of producer,” she said. “Not only do I get to create opportunities for myself but for other people. I still live by that. And if there is something that I’m dying to do, if it’s not written, as a producer, I have an option now to create it for myself.”

She’d been optioning books going back to her time on “The Help,” but her first executive producing credit actually came about by accident when Ryan Coogler’s “Fruitvale Station” lost $150,000 of its $900,000 budget.

“I put in some money and then I started making some calls to people… I don’t even know that I had the resources. I just knew that it was important for me to do,” Spencer said. “We were not going to let it die on the vine, and I had just worked with people who I knew had the resources and so I called.”

She got some nos, but those people regretted it and have since kept bugging her for whatever else she’s got.

“I say, I’m not going to call you unless I need you again and you know when I make that call it’ll be something worthy of your time,” Spencer said with a smile.

She’s got a lot on her plate right now. She’s jet-lagged, for one, having just gotten off a plane from London where she’s filming the remake of “The Witches.” She’s also teamed up with LeBron James to produce and star in a Netflix series about entrepreneur Madam C.J. Walker, as well as an AppleTV+ crime drama “Truth Be Told.”

Her company, ORIT Entertainment, doesn’t really have a mission statement (“I know people are supposed to have them,” she laughed) but she knows what she’s looking for.

“The truth is that I want to tell stories that allow for escapism. I want to tell stories that educate, that entertain, that hopefully inspire,” she said. “There are people going through a lot of things and that two hours in the movie theater should be some type of enjoyment.”

The name ORIT actually harkens back to a time when people didn’t know her name. It was her first day as an intern in casting director Francine Maisler’s office and she kept hearing Maisler call “Orit! Orit!”

“I was just sitting by the phone and finally mid-day one of the assistants in the office says, ‘I think you’re Orit,’” Spencer said.

She said loves Maisler, by the way, who was embarrassed about the “Devil Wears Prada” moment. And “Orit” kind of became her alter-ego. Besides, Spencer is worlds away from that time of anonymity now.

“At this point in my life, I will be heard,” she said.
